Peter R. Braund, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., LL.M.
Peter Braund is a mediator, arbitrator, appraiser and neutral evaluator with YorkStreet Dispute Resolution Group Inc. Peter was called to the Ontario Bar in 1971 and obtained his LL.M. from York University / Osgoode Hall Law School in 1977. Peter attended the Advocates' Society Harvard Mediation Course in 1997, and completed the University of Windsor ADR and Advanced ADR Mediation Courses with Stitt Feld Handy in Toronto in April and July of 2010.
Peter has practised Civil Litigation at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP for over forty-one years, specializing in resolving insurance, commercial and construction disputes of various categories, including coverage issues; commercial, property, professional and other liability policies; product liability; class actions; and construction law.
Peter has been selected by his peers for a number of years for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada in three areas: commercial insurance; personal injury litigation; and product liability law, and has written, taught and spoken extensively to the legal, insurance and academic communities on insurance, civil litigation and procedure and construction law throughout the course of his career.
In September 2012, Peter was selected to be added to the Toronto Construction Association's Roster of Mediators. In October 2012, Peter was selected to be added to the ADR Chambers' list of outside mediators to assist in mediating outstanding claims for statutory accident benefits under various Ontario auto insurance schemes. In January 2013 and again in October 2015, Peter was approved by the Attorney General's office to sit as a public member on the statutory committees of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
As a mediator, arbitrator, appraiser and neutral evaluator, Peter brings to the table the same traits he exhibited in practice with clients, adversaries and colleagues: being patient, perceptive and persistent in pursuing the resolution of a problem; and, possessing both balanced judgement and a sense of fairness in the process and in the result.
